A wide array of activities and events are being planned for Back to Burrinjuck Week 19 – 25 October 2009 and include:

Official Centenary Ceremony and plaque unveiling

  • What: The Official Opening of the celebrations commemorating 100 years since the construction of Burrinjuck Dam
  • Where: Burrinjuck Dam
  • When: Thursday 22 October 10:30am
  • Notes: Morning tea and ceremony

Dam Wall Tours

  • What: Guided tours to see the dam reservoir and the tiny village of Burrinjuck.
    Participants can walk across the dam wall for the first time in 20 years and hear about how this engineering feat marked the beginning of the Murrumbidgee and Coleambally Irrigation Areas.
  • Where: Burrinjuck Dam
  • When: Friday 23 – Sunday 25 October

Commemorative Church Service

  • What: Ecumenical commemorative service to recognise those who lost their lives during construction of Burrinjuck Dam
  • Where: Yass
  • When: Saturday 24 October

Murrumbidgee Irrigation Australia Reunion Dinner and Dance

  • What: A ticketed event celebrating the construction of Burrinjuck Dam. Attendees will enjoy a delicious dinner and entertainment by a local jazz band. An evening to share stories of connections to this historic dam.
  • Where: Yass Soldiers Club
  • When: Saturday 24 October

Back to Burrinjuck documentary launch

  • What: Held as part of the Reunion Dinner and Dance the documentary launch will recognise the people and industries involved in the development of the dam and how it is an integral element in modern local industries.
  • Where: Yass Soldiers Club
  • When: Saturday 24 October

Schools Program (Sponsored by Coleambally Irrigation, SunRice and Transgrid)

  • What: A program to engage students from the local areas in recognising both the historical and current significance of Burrinjuck Dam. Activities include:
    • - Primary Schools Art Competition
    • - Secondary Schools Essay Competition
    • - Resource kit – Back to Burrinjuck documentary
    • - Display material
  • When: Ongoing

Burrinjuck Exhibition

  • What: An exhibition containing artefacts, photos and other memorabilia associated with the development of Burrinjuck Dam.
  • Where: Yass Visitors Centre
  • When: September to October

Yass Valley Council InTheBin Short Film Festival Education Program

  • What: A Youth Film Festival themed ‘Back to Burrinjuck’.
  • Where: Yass
  • When: Films will be screened throughout the week of activities from 19 – 25 October 2009.
